Counseling individuals, couples and groups… training, supervising, and mentoring students and new
professionals… implementing and coordinating suicide prevention programming…what a varied and fulfilling
professional life this is! I strive to understand and value the uniqueness of each person I encounter.
In all of eternity there will never be a human being who is the duplicate of another… because of "nature
and nurture," because of unique familial and cultural experiences, because of other relationships past
and present, because of experiences, positive and negative. College students and new professionals are
in the process of discovering and developing their own unique identities, gifts, creativity, and
abilities. It is an honor to help with this process for a lifelong journey that ideally values the
process of continued growth and discovery. I love that after over 30 years I still feel challenged,
energized, and honored by being invited to share in this process… which also encourages my own ongoing
journey growth and discovery.
In my life outside of A&M, I am a Master Trainer and on the faculty of the QPR Suicide Prevention
Institute, and I use much of my annual leave to travel in the US and Canada implementing suicide
prevention programs for universities, community agencies, school districts, and military organizations
and training professionals in best practices related to this area. My husband and I work together in his
advertising photography and digital restoration business and we love to travel. My favorite other
activities include landscaping and renovating our mid-century home, gourmet cooking and dining, playing
the French horn in brass choirs, and finishing the Sunday New York Time crossword puzzle.

Crisis intervention and suicide assessment, intervention and prevention. Multiculturalism and diversity,

Eclectic and integrative. I pull from a variety of theoretical orientations, styles and techniques to
help create a safe environment to facilitate discovery and growth of the whole person. My approach is
based in understanding the person I'm counseling, training, or supervising from a multicultural and well
as developmental perspective, recognizing that our relationship is impacted by both our similarities and
our differences. My style is fairly informal, active and interactive… even at times gently challenging
in encouraging someone to risk trying out new behaviors and exploring new ideas and ways of interacting.
Our work might include exploring family of origin dynamics, cognitive behavioral strategies, employing
and teaching relaxation/hypnosis, using of metaphor, imagery and humor, gestalt work, transactional
analysis perspectives, and focusing on the here-and-now of the counseling experience as a means for
real-time discovery and growth. My approach and style in training and supervision is similarly
integrative and it is based and developed through collaboration with customization for that person's
goals, needs and stage of development as a therapist and person.
