Kerry Hope
As a psychologist I try to empower others to have a lifetime of personal growth by encouraging the development
of the "whole person" in both my counseling and in my mentoring and supervision of interns. I thrive on the
variety that a professional life in a university counseling service provides. In addition to providing
counseling, training, outreach, and consultation, I coordinate our suicide prevention education programming.
I also serve as a "Namesake Mentor" for an Aggie Access freshman learning community.
In my life outside of A&M I am a Master Trainer with the QPR Suicide Prevention Institute based in Spokane,
Washington and travel around the nation to implement suicide prevention programs at other universities, mental
health and community agencies, school districts, and military organizations. I also work with my husband in
his advertising photography and digital restoration business. My favorite activities outside of my work life
include traveling, landscaping and renovating our mid-century home, gourmet cooking and dining, finishing the
New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle, and playing French horn in a brass choir.

Integrative. . I have an integrative style in my counseling, pulling from a variety of theoretical
orientations and counseling styles to best fit the individual needs of my clients. My approach is based in
understanding the client from both a developmental and a multicultural perspective. Counseling might include
exploring family of origin issues, cognitive behavioral strategies, the use of humor and metaphor,
Transactional Analysis, Gestalt techniques, and exploring the dynamics of the counseling relationship itself
to further creative growth and understanding.
My approach and style in training and supervision is collaborative and is customized to meet the individual
needs of the supervisee at his or her stage of developmental as a therapist.
